10x instead of 10% – Exponential Thinking

10% faster, 15% more, 5% less…

Our brains think incrementally by default.

That’s why many people focus on making things slightly better. You can see it every day.

Hiring 10 more employees, spending $10k more on ads, opening one more shop…

And the best-case scenario, they get what they planned for: an incremental improvement. But the real progress in life comes from exponential changes.

After thousands of years, somebody was tired of carrying wood and animals day by day. He thought: “There must be a different way.” That guy invented the wheel and changed history.

Airbnb didn’t create a slightly better hotel chain. They changed the problem from “we host you” to “we let others host you” to achieve exponential results.

“It’s often easier to make something 10x better than it is to make it 10% better.”

Astro Teller

When you aim for 10x instead of 10%, your only option is creativity. You need to change how you approach the problem to achieve 10x.

You aren’t looking for a faster horse anymore, but you’re trying to build a car.

Now, think about your life.

What can you change to get 10x results instead of getting slightly better?

How can you allocate the limited resources you have (time, money) to get the best possible outcome?

Remember, what you work on is always more important than how hard you work.
